FATAL BOAT ACCIDENT IN MOTUEKA RIVER.
A YOUTH DROWNED. (By Telegraph). (iTrom Our Own Correspondent.) jytotuekaj July 1. ... A fatal bo„t accident occurred tbday, about 11 a. iri., in the. Motueka river, which is in flood. Three young men were crossing from this side in a canoe, near the site of the new bridge, on the upper side of it, aria* were carried down -stream by th 6 strong Current running ori to ______ staging in the river that is being used in connection with one of the piers of the bridge. The canoe waß overturned, and one of its occupants, named Reuben Grooby,' aged ,J7 years., was drbwne.tt. The other livvo occupants, named Wilson (who is a carpenter employed on the bridge work) and Gordon Grooby (who wae a cousin of the deceased) escaped by climbing up the staging?.
