BAPTIST CHURCH.

Special reference was made to the sad event at the services yesterday. Speaking in the evening, the pastor, the Rev. Stanley Jenkin, said that lit would be both unfitting and unj patriotic were they not, not only as a church and people, but also as citizens, to take public notice of the national loss they had sustained in the death of Mr Seddon. It was neither the time nor the place for politics to be discussed. To ! all intents and purposes the trend of legislation during Mr Seddon's tenure of office had been for the uplifting and improvement of this section of humanity. The death oi! Mr Seddon left a blank in tbe public life of the Colony which it would be difficult to fill. The work he had projected and carried on so nobly and effectively would be difficult to be carried on by his successor, and we need to call earnestly upon God, who cares not only, for His Church, but also for all humanity, that the call to fill the place of the deceased statesman may be given to che right mac. It was now the fit time to express in the best way they were able their sense of their national loss and deep sympathy with Mrs Seddon and her family. They had been very suddenly and sadly bereaved, and needed the prayers of all God's people to help them in their trouble. It was also a time when all should pause and listen to God's voice, which was saying to them "Be ye also ready, for in such an hour as ye know not the Son of Man cometh." The "Dead March in Saul" was played by the organist, Mr Ernest Wood, the congregation standing.
