GRIEF IN WESTLAND.
Hokitika, Juno -12. I Sir J. G. Ward cabled from London to tho Mayor of Hokitika his sympathy with the electorate of Westland, who by tho death of Mr Seddon have lost a noted and worthy representative, and true friend and champion of the miners. Business is practically at a standstill. " Many business houses are draped in black. The grief and depression throughout. Westland are acute, the feeling being akin to the loss of a near and dear relative. Last week a movement was quietly set afoot to arrange a deputation from the West, Coast to go to Wellington next week, to convey personally birthday greetings ii> Mr Seddon, but the mission now in the minds of the leading men of Westland i9of a very different character.
