THE VOLUNTEERS.
Advantage was taken of the meeting on Saturday evening in connection with the recent camp at Easter to say farewell to Captain and Adjutant S. V. Trask, who leaves for Dunedin on transfer on Wednesday morning. There was a good attendance of officers, Lieut. -Uolonel Harkness presiding. Complimentary references were made by the Chairman and a number of officers present regarding the manner in j which Captain Trask bad carried out his duties, and the courtesy and attention he bad paid to all branches of the service throughout the district. He was congratulated on his promotion to a larger district, and he was wished success in his new sphere of action. As a token of the goodwill of tfae officers a presentation was made to Mrs Trask, through Captain Trask. Tnis was accompanied by three cheers. Captain Trask feelingly replied. He was pleased to know that he had the good wishes of tbe officers in leaving them. He had endeavored to carry out his duties fairly to all concerned, and he was glad to have their appre ciation. On behalf of Mrs Trask, he thanked fche officers for their gift, which he knew his wife would appreciate. Before dispersing the health of the departing officer was drunk, followed bv "Auld Lang Syne,-' and "God Save the King." The presentation to Mrs Trask took the form of a silver spirit kettle, stand and spirit lamp. The battalion inspection parade of the town and country corps will take place on Wednesay evening.
