SHOOTING.
NELSON DEFENCE RIFLE CLUB The competitions last week were for first-class, Mr Volckman's trophy (12th), and second-class, Mr S. D. Levien's (4th); ranges 200 and GOO yards. R. Catley secured a leg-in for Mr Volckman's trophy, Captain Wilson having the hard luck of being counted out for the second time, after having secured two legsin, and J. Holland got the leg in for Mr Levien's trophy. The following are the leading scores :—
Previous winners:— Milroy, Wilson (2), Best, Hooker, Milner, Jones, Allport, Sherwood, Bradley, and Hunter. At a meeting of the Club last night it was decided to accept the invitation of the Waimea Rifles to send a team of ten men to Brightwater on Saturday next. A match for the second team againat the Maitai Club on the Toi Toi Valley range on Saturday to be arranged if possible. a The next competition will be on Febrary 28th. and March 3rd, for Messrs Hogg and Co. 's trophy, ranges 300 and 500 yards.
