BURGLARS IN AUCKLAND.
Auckland, February 13. Early this morning Bishop Lenihan's residence and the Convent were ransacked by burglars. In the absence of Bishon?Lenihan, the officials decline-to give particulars, but it is understood that the thieves made a good haul, especially in view of wheel marks of a trap seen outside, and that yesterday it was the opening day of the Convent School, when the fee 3 were received. Later. Three gangs of burglars operated on the Bishop's palace and Convent. It transpires that the burglars made a good haul, though a large sum of money was overlooked in the Bishop's residence. The thieves forced open locks and cupboards, and ransacked them of valuables. Latest. Further particulars regarding the robbery at t.he Roman Catholic Bishop's residence shows that three cheques and £6 odd in cash were stolen. , St. John's Vicarage, situated in the eastern portion of the city, was broken into on Sunday night, while semcewas being held in the church, and £7 10a stolen. An entrance was gained through the scullery window. Last night thieves entered Mrs Parkinson's private house in Hardinge Jstreet, while tho members of the family were in bed. They went through all tho furniture capable of holding valuables, and they made a most thorough search, strowine the contents all over the floor. They were successful in discovering a sum of £10, which had been done up into packages for payment of tradesmene bills, and which was placed inside a cupboard.
