Nelson Philatelic Society. — The annual meeting of the Nelson Philatelic Society was held on Monday evening in the Bishop's School, when Mr Brusewitz, Vice-President) was voted to the chair. The Hon. Secretary and Treasurer, Miss Nina Jones, presented the report for the past year, from which it appeared that although the society had lost several members from removals, etc., it had held several meetings during the year, and exchanged a good number of stamps. The Chairman in his address gave some nseful suggestions to the members for the ensuing year, and urged upon the members to come prepared at the meetings to exhibit any new varieties, etc., they may have obtained, in order to encourage others in the interesting hobby. The election ot officers 1 resulted a3 follows :— President; Mrs Renwick : Vice-Presideht, Mr Brusewitz; Hon. Secretary and Treasurer, Miss Nina Jones: Committee, the executive officers, and Miss Hunter-Brown, M iss Ledger, and Mr R. I. Kingsley. Most cordial votes of thanks were given to Miss N. Jones for the large amount of time and labor spent in carrying out her duties as Secretary. A resolution of sympathy with the family of the late Mrs Scott Ayas passed, the deceased lady having been a member of the society. Much interesting information was given about the stamps of Canada by the Vice-President during the evening, that country being the special study of the evening.

Government Purchases.— The Government has purchased the famous Waitomo Caves, near Hamilton, in the Waikato district; also the property of Mr Dore, at Lake Manapouri. West Coast, including a house and steamer. The properties will be, ylawd ia charge of {he Tourist Department.
