From Colonist, Nov. 3rd.
The heavy downpour of rain, which commenced on Wednesday evening, continued until early yesterday morning, causing the western end of the city to be again flooded. Tho man hole of the sewer, at the junction of Waimea and Hardy streets, was forced off, and the lowlying lands were once more covered with storm water. Several of the residents in this locality were again put to inconvenience by the flood water invading their premises, and at Messrs Neale and Baddow's grain store hands were busily engaged removing grain and produce into a place of safety. The Maitai river rose rapidly, and was soon in high flood, covering the track between the Hardy street and Normanby bridges; Wakatu Lane waa also in flood. The tide at midnight was also exceptionally high, reaching to within about a foot of the decking of the Railway wharf. Several small slips occurred on the Rocks road ? the Port Hills, and other place 3in the vicinity of the town.
