There was a strong demand , for both wethers and hoggets, and a clearance was effected, an, Ashburtoh . buyer being the pi-in'cipal purchaser I of wethers The following were the j principal sales:— 27o wethers at 21s 6d, 62 at 21s, 93 at 20a 9d, 145 at 20s 6d, 264 at 20s, 120 at 19s 9d, 53 at 18s 9d, 152 at 18s, and 57 merinos at 7s Id, 44 hoggets at 17s lOd, 76 at 17s 9d, 26 at 17s sd, 60 at 16s Sd. 40 [ at 16s, and 192 culls at 13s 7d. Fat Sheep: The yarding of fat sheep was not a very large one, and was made up chiefly of good to prime crossbred andhalfbred wethers, with a few lines of crossbred ewes and merino wethers. The market was firm, especially for medium weight sheep. Only a few lines were bought for freezing. As there was a much . smaller proportion of unfinished I sheep in than last week, graziers s were not able to pick up many lots. The range of prices were: — Prime I wethers, 23s to 27s 4d ; extra, to 28s . 6d; others, 21s to 22s 6d. Prime r ewes, 22s to 25 3d ; medium, 18s to 21s 9d ; others, 15s to 17s 6d. Prime i merino wethers, 19a 6d to2ls4d; •' medium, 17s to 19s; others, 14s to 16s|6d. Fat Cattle : The entry of fat cattle > totalled 135, which was below the average. The quality was mostly ' good, and the market opened at 1 higher rates, but several consignments coming in late steadied the market, though prices all round were ' firmer than last week. A line of seven steers from Messrs W. and C. Parnham, Kaiapoi, made £8 10s to £9 12 6d ; and other steers brought ■ £6 15s to £11 2s 6d. Heifers, £6 7s 6d |to £6 17s 6d ; and cows £5 to £7, equal to 22s to 24s 6d for prime, and ' 20s to 21s 6d for medium per 100 lbs. There was a fair yarding of veal ! calves, which sold at 7s 6d to £2 10s. 1 Store and Dairy Cattle: A small mixed entry of store cattle met with I dull sale, and there was not much E demand for dairy cows, which were ■ mostly medium and inferior sorts. Yearlings fetched 28s, 18 months 51s , to 555, two year heifers 51s, three J year steers 67s 6p to 82s 6d, 3-year ' heifers 755, dry cows 18s to 65s 7d, dairy cows 88s to 150s. 3 Pigs There was a fair entry of 3 pigs, baconers selling at last week's I rates, while porkers were eaiser. Heavy baconers made 45s to 525, \ > equal to 3d to 3i|d per lb; light, 35s » to;42s, equal to 3^d to 3f^d per lb; i porkers, 20s to 30s, equal to 3%d to > 4d per lb. There was a rather better I enquiry for stores and they sold as t follows— Large stores, 16s to 265; medium, 12a 6d to 15s; and weaners, 5s to 10s. ' ■■—
