NELSON CARNIVAL,

The Exreutive of the Nelson Carnival Committee met last night, Mr Duncan In the chair. The minutes were confirmed, and an account passed for payment . " ! The Collector of Customs wrote, i intimating that the Chinese fireworks could not be admitted free of duty. Resolved, that theM.'sH.R. jfot the Nelson district (Messrs Graham and McKenzie) be asked to move in the matter. Captain S. V. Trask, the District Adjutant, reported as to the Band contest. He said eleven Bands had entered, and probably before the time for enries closing there would be twelve or more. Messrs Duncan and Squires were appointed to assist in the matter of procuring accommodation for the Bandsmen. A letter was read from the combined Sailing, Rowing, and Swimming GJubs regarding the holding of Aquatic Sports, and asking for a grant of £50 from the Carnival Committee. Resolved, to grant the £50 on the condition of 25 per cent of the net profits being received by the (Committee. Mr H..Atmore brought up the report from the conference with the Town Schools Comitteee regarding the Childrens' Day. These were that there should be an afternoon of sports for which prizes be given. That one meal be provided for the children coming from the counry at the close of the sports; that no railway fares be paid, but steps be taken to get the fares as reasonable as possible; that a grant of £60 be asked for from the Carnival Committee; a collection to be taken at the gates. Resolved, that the report be adopted, and it be a recommendation fco the Childrens' Sports Committee that £5 out of the £35 proposed to be spent by them in prizes, be apportioned for prizes for the best historical tableau by competitive schools. Resolved, that Messrs H. Atmore and W. T. Bond represent the Carnival Committee on the Children's Sports Committee. One or two minor matters were attended to, and the Committee adjourned.
