Mr 0. 0. Empson, a native of Nelson and an ex-Bisbop's School boy, now Stock Inspector at Hokitika, is at present paying a short visit to Nelson. Jeffries, of America, the champion boxer of the world, is about to pay Australia a visit. He gets £500 for expenses, and is promised a purse of 2000 sovereigns. Mr Charles Ticehurst, of Greytown, has passed away. He arrived in the Colony in 1840. News comes from Melbourne that Miss Gertie Campion's health has improved a litfcle. The veteran colonist, Captain William Jackson Barry, nas had some money and property left him by an aunt in England. Rev. William John Dean (Primitive Methodist) has passed away at Wellington, in his 80th year. He came out to the colonies in 1860.
