I The House met at 2.30 p.m. i" Messrs Taylor, Fisher, Ell and Laurenson presented several petitions asking a full public inquiry, into the Voucher case. The rShops and Offices Bill was recommitted. Mr Baume desired to have section A altered bo as to allow overtime for stocktaking to worked on forty days of a year insead of thirty days, without the written consent of the Inspector. Lost by 31 votes to 16. Mr Massey desired to have fruiterers exempt from the operations of the bill, excepting as regards limiting the hours of shop assistants. :. Lost by 36 votes to 15. Mr Kirkbride moved to strike out sub-section of clause 3a, providing that a shop assistant shall not be employed in any shop aftar six o'clock in the evening, in the following businesses: — Bakers, booksellers, butchers, chemists, confectioners, fishmongers, dairy produce sellers, florists, hair-dreßsers, tobacconists, pork butchers and refreshment room keepers. He said the country storekeepers were severely hnndicapped by the provision. Fj£A long rebate ensued which lasted untii tun 5.30 p.m. adjournment, and was continued when the House resumed at 7.30.
