GYMNASTIC EXHIBITION. i — — . b From Colonist, Nov. 2nd. 1 Tho members of the All Saints' ' Institute gave a highly creditable gymnastic exhibition at the Theatre Royal last evening, when a packed c house greeted the performers. Both sexes were well represented among 3 those who took part, as the names 5 will show, and the work all round was distinctly good, and in individual eases brilliant, and quite justified the remarks of the Rev, W. • S. Lucas, who in thanking the audil ence for the liberal support, spoke 3 of the exhibition as giving proof of the excellence of the instruction, and the value of the Institute. The ? instructor, Mr A. Stephens, is to be congratulated on the successful rer suit that has been brought about 1 mainly by his endeavors, and the " Committee also, especially the energetic co-secretary, Mr L. Jackson, deserve credit for the excellent man--3 ncr in which the arrangements were carried out. A substantial addition " to the fund for the extension of the 1 Institute should be netted as the " lesult of the performance. The pro- ■ gramme included dumb-bells, trapeze, parallel bars, horizontal bar, Roman rings, wands, tumbling, etc., 3 marches and mazes, and a maypole - dance, and march by the junior - girls. The club swinging of Mr : Abbott, who is not a local athlete, • was heartily applauded, and the general work of this performer, Mr I Stephens, and Mr Layton calls for 1 special mention. Mr Oakley, junior, i was by no means a bad "clown" in i orthodox costume. Miss F. Coote . (recitation), Miss Kathleen Bolton, L Master MacMahon, and Mr W. Ati more (songs) assisted in the enter- , tainment, and the younger 3ingers J were honored with recalls. Miss Stallard had an arduous evening's 5 work as pianiste, and carried out > her duties pleasingly. The following • were the performers: — Ladies' team: : Misses E. and W. Jones, Kitching, I Milrcy, E. and M. Naylor, Stewart, • and Poole. Men's team : Messrs H. • Hurst, Layton, Abbott, Jackson, i Harling, Oakley, W. and S. Barnett, : Chapman, Silcock, Haase, Percivnl, McDonagh, Webley, Clarke, Kobin- ! son, Lock, and Baigent. Junior i Girls' team: Misses K. Bolton, G. • Harkness, V. Chishom, V. and J. 1 Everett, H. Edmondson, E. Sandel, S. Derrick, F. Dement, R. Lukins, F. Eobson, V. Madigan, G. Neale, B. Oakey, B. Calders, H. and G. 1 Bradley, Z. Poole, C. McGee, and : F. Henry. Mr Kirkpatrick, for the second time this season, donated a siiveri mounted purse for competition among the ladies, this time for the best work done on the machines. At the close of the performance the Rev. Mr Lucas announced to the performers that the Committee had unani mously decided that Miss Emily Naylor was entitled to the prize, an award that met with general approval. On behalf of the ladies of the Institute, Mr Lucas then presented Mr Stephens, the instructor, with a travelling bag, as a token of their appreciation of his endeavors during the season. The ladies gave three hearty cheers for Mr Stephens, who suitably returned his thanks.
