Gehrs played a fine resourceful innings, while Newland, who showed slashing cricket, made 50 in 35 minutes. In the cricket match, Painters v. Nelson-Rivals, played on Saturday afternoon, the latter won by 45 runs on the first innings. The NelsonRivals won the toss and batted, but could only make 95, Adams 22, Kinzett 16, and Livick 15 being the principal scorers. The Painters responded with 50, Cullen doing best with 17; and being allowed to follow on they beat their opponents' score by one, making 96. Cullen was again the highest scorer with 42, including six? boundary hits (fourers), Cannington making 11, Rogers 10, and Graham 8. The bowlers for the Rivals were Livick, 3 for 13 and 3 forlQ ; Richards, 3 for 5 ; Batchelor, 2for£9; Kinzett, 1 for 6 and 3 for 14; Franklin, lforl0;:and 1 for 1.
