The ordinary monthly meeting of this body was held yesterday. Pre? sent:— Ors. Beuke (Chairman), Best, Macmahon, Franklyn, Everett, Gill, and Rollet. The minutes were confirmed, and payments authorised on Land Fund thirds account £49 Ha 10d ; interest account Bocks Eoad, £39 19s sd ; interest account Ngatimoti bridge, £9 6s Id ; general account, £670 la 5d (the latter included Charitable Aid £195, and Koad Boards subsidies £143). Littlejohn) reported that he had laid out the Motueka river protective works, and the plans had been approved.— A proposed deviation of the road across the Wangapeka run had also been laid oif, but Mr Tinline, after inspection, stated that he intends to cut up the run, and prefers^the^present road.— The work of survey of road through Stringer's run was in progress. — Very little work except 1 that ordered by the Council had been 1 done during the month, and the wet weather of three weeks ago had done considerable damage owing to the ! work of cleaning the watertables and filling up ruts being suspended. Generally the roads were-' in :.. fair order. — Details of tho work in the several ridings followed. During the meeting Mr Tinline waited upon the Engineer, and agreed to allow the proposed road deviation, Wangapeka run, conditionally, upon the Council having survey made. The Engineer's report was adopted. Resolved on letter from Mr J. W. 1 Sutcliffe, Ngatimoti, that the Engineer be instructed to give effect to the resolution ordering the removal of gates on Lloyd's Valley road. The Chief Engineer of Roads advised that a report was being obtained by the Department upon the Wangamoa-Rai main road, but owing to want of fuDds the Minister could not see his way to assuming control of the road as a Government road. Mr John Graham, M.H.R., advised that he was endeavoring to have the Council's wishes with respect to the Wangamoa-Rai main road given > effect to. ; The Chief Health Officer forwarded \ copy of Public Health Act, and ads vised that the onus of provision of ; infectious diseases hospital was2now ! placed on the Hospital Board. I The Chief Enigneer of Roa s adl vised that the following authorities • and balances of authorities, which ' werelcancelled, had been reinstated: ■ — Belgrove-Upper Wai-iti,£9s 10s 4d ; Graham River bridge, £32 13s; Upper Motupiko, £158 6s; Norris' Gully-Stewart's, £100; and Quail , Valley, £71. . ■ ' Resolved, that instant application ' be made for authorities for all votes \ appearing on?the Estimates. r Resolved to make representations [ to have thrushes included in the list [ of destructive birds, Councilors stat- ,. ing their opinion that the thrust j was the most destructive and impudent of all birds in the fruit-growing districts. Resolved, that second instalments of small |birds' destruction rate '■ money be paid to the Upper Moutere , and Suburban k;North Road Boards. Resolved, that Mr J. W. Wills, . Ngatimoti, be granted permission tc do work on road as specified. . Resolved to inform Mr W.Phillips, t Sherry, that !as soon as _the road , across Orchard Creek flat is legalised ; the work would be proceeded with, i application to be made to"the Com- • missioner of Crown Lands to have ,' the work of same expedii ted. Mr Ross, Moutere Bluffs, waited , upon the Council with regard to i grant for Moutere mudflat road, and i was informed that all authorities were being applied for. Resolved, that the Engineer define ) the proper width of the road at Mi Fred. Langley's, Gordon road. ' fi Resolved, that Mr E. H. Bromell furnish the Council with description of bridges, jand definite prices for which |he would build the two required by him. Resolved to spply each*branch of tHe New Zealand jFarmers' Union in the County with a copy of the Council's by-laws free of charge. Resolved, that the Engineer fnrnish an' estimate— (l) Of cost of grubbing briars on seaward side of the Wakapuaka road. (2.) Of cost of removing ridge of earth on the same line. It was also resolved to ask the Harbor Board to state a definite sum that the Board would contribute towards removing the briars. Resolved^ that the road machine be used on the Quail Valley road grant, and a reasonable charge against the grant be made for the machine. . - Resolved i to procure 1000 feet of decking timber for repair purposes for Motueka bridge to be kept on hand. '. ; Resolved, that a sum not exceeding £2 10s be expended in repairing the Fairhali-Tadmor road, and reinstating the 'culverts thereon. Resolved, that the securing of the necessary timber for bridges be left in the hands of the Enigneer. Resolved, ; that £20 reward be offered- for information leading to the conviction of any person setting fire to bridges. £342 10s, which is eaid to be doing „' good service in other parts of the ' Colony. Subsequently the Council resolved that in the present state of the funds a crusher could not be purchased from general account, and the matter was deferred until next month, when the finrfnciar outlook will be considered. Cr Everett havingi given notice to move at the next ■meeting : that the necessary steps be taken' to raise a loan of £8000 to be expended as follows :— £sooo on bridges, and £3000 on metalling, the Engineer stated that a crusher would mean better roads, and an ultimate saving of from 2s to 2s 6d per yard, with better'metal. ; The Council rose at thiee o'clock.
