Dcnedin, Sept. 1. The Chief Commissioner of Crown Lands states that the mortality among sheep, as a result of the -recent snowstorms, appears to have Been greatest in the Morvan Hills distiict. No reliable estimate can be made till shearing time, but it will probably be found the losses are not far short of those of 1895. In Central Otago the loss will probably reach 100,000 sheep
