DISCOVERY OF REMAINS OF AN INMATE.

lad William Wilson, . who lost his life in the fire, when shortly before ono o'clock the Coroner received the following message from Mr Hogben, Secretary for Education: — "I am directed by the Minister of Education to apply for an adjournment of the inquest concerning Stoke School fire until Friday next, to enable the Education Department to be represented. Kindly reply.'-' The Coroner at once made arrangements for the inquest to be adjourned accordingly, but the hour has not yet been .fixed, awaiting further information as to the arrival of the Department's representative.

Wilson came from Greymouth, and aad been in the institution about' two years. At the time of his corncnittal he was friendless, his mother being dead, and his father not dis 2overable. Father Mahony has received the following donations: — Mr John Tinline, £40; the Mayor (Mr H. Baigent), £5; Hon. F. Trask, M.L.C., £5; a joint contribution from Bishop Lenihan and Mr Moss Davis, of Auckland, of £13; and gifts of clothing, etc., from the following — Mrs (Dr.) Mackie, Mrs Bunny, Captain S. Trask, Mr L. J. Frank, and a number of friends who have left parcels at Stoke. A working bee is being held daily at the Presbytery, some half dozen sewing machines being" kept going all the afternoon and evening sewing bedding, etc. The Eev. Father Mahony is also making application to the Government for assistance. His Excellency Lord Eanfurly yesterday telegraphed his sympathy, and made enquiries as to the losses sustained, also enquiring particularly regarding the unfortunate lad Wilson. The question of rebuilding is al- , ready receiving attention, and w» j understand an endeavor will be I made to have a brick building.
