A Serious Accident. — We regret very much to learn that an accident which Mr Stewart Lightband, son of Mr M. Lightband, met with last week is much more serious than at first thought. Mr Lightband, who is employed at tho Anchor Foundry had a slight fall while at work on - the dredge, and hurt his back, but was able to walk. Examination proved, however, that his spine was j injured, and .he has been removed to ) Miss Eochfort's private hospital for treatment, which will, we under--5 stand, involve his being kept in a recumbent position for three months. Mr Lightband, who is a fine, stalwart young man, and a general favorite, will have the sympathy of a large s circle of friends, and we hope that h« will make ad early recovery, and be none the worse for his unfortunate accident. Bicyci<e Accident. — Mr W. J. J Smith, employed at Messrs Light--1 band & Co. 's, as a result of a fall from his bicycle, sustained a fractured collarbone. Mr Smith was riding down a steep pathway leading from his residence, when the bicycle skidded in a rut. The Institute, — The entertainment to be given at the Theatre on Thursday and Friday evenings in aid of the Institute is sure to prove a great success. It tfill be recognised that the programme published this morning is a highly attractive one ; there will be a very efficient orchestra, and favorite local amateurs will take part in the dramatic performance. Cvthedbal Mission. — At the Mission ' Service at the Cathedral last evening the missioner took- for his text Luke y. 5 : "At Thy word I will," and in the course of his address Fpointed out how the Bible is 1 full of the wonders effected by the Word of God, and appealed most earnestly for those present to seek to know what* the *Will of God is fori their: every-day life, and then knowing it to be ready to obey that Will at all costs.
