A GEtfcitfE- Miser;— Becently"' a Jew, named Eli Hyman, was admitted into thd Toronto (Canada) Hospital* as a non-paying patient. He had lived in that city for thirty-two years, and when taken to the Hospital was in a disgustingly filthy condition. Four days afterwards he died, when it was found he was the owner of twenty thousand pounds in first-class securities. It was. found his investments were sufficient; to yield an annual income of two thous* arid pounds, yet he had starved himself, and never was decently dressed. He separated himself from his wife, and for thirty-five years never contributed a farthing towards her support. The securities worth £8,000 were found wrapped up in an old handkerchief, and others worth £12,000 were found fastened in the lining of his waistcoat. He used to gather rags, and sell newspapers in the streets. It is to be hoped the neglected wife will make good use of the wealth which will no doubt come to her. .

Auction - Sales. — To-morrow, at i 2.30 p.m., Messrs W. Rout & Sonsj will sell fat and store sheep; and cattle, cows, horses, at Mr G. E. Wastney's yards, Wakapuaka; on Saturday next, at noon, at their rooms, two cottage properties in Alton street on behalf the Hon. J. W. Barnicoat ; on Tuesday next, at 1 p.m., the firm conduct the annual ram and ewe sale in connecftion with the Nelson A. and P. Association, at Richmond Park, when they will offer one of the finest selections of rams submitted to auction in this district.

On Friday next Messrs Bisleyßros. and Co. will hold their annual .Ram and Ewe Fair at their Richmond Railway Sale ' Yards, when they will offer Romney Marsh and English lieicesters on account of Mr J. W. Marsden, Stoke, Messrs T. and W. R. Hunt, as well as the chief North Island breeders, including Messrs Bidwell, Dorsett, and Mathes, and from Canterbury of .Romney Marsh oh account of the well known breeders Messrs Bealey Bros. ; Shropshires on account of Messrs fcNelson-Bros, Hawkes Bay, Lincoln College, Canterbury, and W. Grant, Timaru. Englist' Leicesters on account of Messrs Nelson Bros., T. A. Phillips, and J. C. (*reig, Canterbury, and D. Bishell, Marlborough. Lincolns on accont of Messrs J., Stucky, North Island, and D. Bishell. Merinos on account of R. Corbett, and J. R. Bell, Marlborough. Nearly 'the whole of these sheep are of the highest class, being stud rams, and registered in the New. Zealand Flock [Book, they should prove a great acquisition to the Jdiatrict. , A further list of local breeders willbe found in the auctioneers advertisement columns. The sale commences at 10 o'clock, when some 2500 ewes, wethers, and rams will be offered, also 350 head of cattle, including prime fats, stores, and yearlings, and a number of first-class milch cows from the herd of the Hon. J. W. Barnicoat. The ram fair will start at 1 o'clock sharp. It will be noticed that all store and fat stock must be yarded by the latest at 9 o'clock, and rams must be yarded and ticketed by 11 o'clock. Attendance will be at the yards from 6.30 a.m. The auctioneers advise 1 that the imported sheep have all arrived in excellent condition, L and the lot are described as the finest sheep ever exhibited in this province. year, arrangements havelbeen made for country buyers to take delivery of stock purchased within half an hour of sale.
