HARMONIC SOCIETY.

ANNUAL MEETING,

The annual meeting of the Harmonic Society was held last evening, when Mr Fell took the chair. The report and balance sheet were adopted, and votes of thanks were passed to the pianiste, the soloists, the Secretary, Treasurer, Auditor, and Conductor. The following officers were declared to be duly re-elected : -President, His Lordship the Bishop of Nelson ; VicePresidents, Mr 0. V, Fell, Bey. J P. Kemptborne; Secretary, Mr F. G. Gibbs ; Treasurer* Mr B. I. Kingsley; Auditor, -Mr.F. Bamford ; Committee, the President, VicePresiclents^Secretary, Treasurer, Messrs J. Boon, J. H. Cosk, C. King, T. Roberts, and W.Wratt.

The annual report showed that the Society had given five concerts within the year, and reference was made to the great success of the opening concert in the School of Music, as well as to the fact that all the concerts had been given to large and appreciative audiences; It Ayas stated that the juirnber of subscribing members had increased to over 400, ■ and ; mention was made of the fact that the fine acoustic properties of the new hall had added greatly to the attractiveness of the ' concerts, which had become increasingly popular. As to the financial position of the . Society, it was mentioned with satisfaction that for the first time for many years a -credit balance was shown, though it was pointed but that the expenditure during the year | now entered upon was likely tobej large, particularly in the event of ; the Society joining with the School i of Music" in importing a new grand piano. The report stated that Mr J. H. Cock, how on a visit to England, was kindly inspecting some of the best instruments' under offer, and that ; a final jeport> was expected by next Pmail^ so\ that" .the- Committee hoped that a really first-class instrument:: would be; available/ in /^the course of a few months.
