THE LICENSING POLL.
Under "The Licensing Poll Regulation Act. 1900," section 3, any ten or more electors who are in favor of the proposal that no licenses., be granted in the district may nominate any two specified persons to appoint one scrutineer to act at each ballot box in the district in the interest of all electors Who are in favor of that proposal. Section 4 gives similar right to those who are not m favor of the proposal that no licenses m ! granted. Nomination papers are to be lodged with the returning officer nob later than the seventh day before the day of polling, and shall be open for public inspection. On a day, nob earlier than the fifth day before, nor later than the third day before the polling day the returning officer shall publicly consider all nomination papers lodged, and after hearing all objections thereto, shall select two fit persons to appoint one scrutineer, and two fit persons to appoint the other scrutineer to act in the respective interests of those in favor of, and those opposed to th© proposal that no licenses be - granted: .Every scrutineer so appointed shall have all the powers of a scrutineer appointed under "The Electoral Act, 1893." In accordance with the foregoing provisions the Temperance Party have selected Mrs Crump and Mrs A. Watson to appoint scrutineers to act in their interest; . ... ■■■.'.: We understand that; the Licensed Victuallers' Association is taking similar action.
