Earthquake. —At twenty-five minutes past four yesterday afternoon a slight and short shock of earthquake was felt in Nelson. A sharp shock was felt at Wanganui at Wanganui at 3.24 p.m. Accident. — Mr X, Palmer, son of Mr C. G. Palmer of Waimea West, met with a painful accident on Friday evening last. While opening a bottle of lemonade he used a spike to force down the glass stopper, when the bottle burst inflicting a deep gash at the base of the thumb of the right hand severing thetendons. Mr Palmer had to be conveyed to Brightwater * for surgical attendance, |and chloroform had to be administered before the wound could be dressed.
