Lord Kitchener, replying in the " Daily Mail" to the manifesto of the German Evangelical clergy, states that the charges contained therein that the British placed Boer women and children under fire in order to shield themselves are absolutely baseless. "The Cologne Gazette " expresses surprise at the credulity of 680 pastors who signed the manifesto embodying the story. Lord Durham, in the course of a speech, said that when Sir Henry Campbell Bannerman, Leader of the Opposition, declared the British guilty cf barbarism and loathsome behaviour he was a fool if be believed otherwise he was a knave, saying so for partisan purposes: Mr A.squilh, ex-Home Secretary, [Liberal), declares that there is no ground for exaggerated pessimism regarding the war. While Europe was :inging with violent calumnies against >ur troops, he was bound to say with jmphasis that in courage, endurance, md humanity they were never surpassed n the annals of warfare. He added that 10 illusory truce was wanted. German Papers Contradict Rumors. Received November. 27, 0.54 a.m. Berlin, November 26. Most of the German papers publish strong sontradictions of the alleged British atrociies in South Africa. Mr W. T. Stead and the Rev Harold rlylet have bailed Krause. The Magistrate rarned them that if Krause did not sur- ' ender, the sureties were liable to be prose- i :uted for conspiracy. Wellington, November 26. The Premier is advised that 36 IS Sergt Chomaa Harri«, Sixth Contingent, was vounded near Makkerstroom on the 22nd nstant; Trooper Wm. Bichards. Seventh Contingent, was slightly wounded near Pondwaoa on 2 1st instant ; and that two Jew Zealanders left Capetown by the ! tfineveh via Sydney on the 23rd instant.
