BRIGHTWATER.

(from a correspondent.) A vei'y fine eel was caught in the Wairoa a few days ago. Mr Geo. Robertson while strollihg'near the Railway bridge spied the creature, and gave notice to our local expert, Mr C. R. Silcock. Messrs Silcock, Robertson and another with the aid of a flounder spear and gaff grassed the monster, which turned out to be 4ft 6in long, 16in in girth, and 231 b in weight. This is supposed to be the heaviest taken out of the Wairoa. K skeleton of a 21b trout' was found in its maw. The prize and his captors were duly photographed by Mr Stirton. Mr George P. Jones of Brightwater, passed away last Saturday, in his 59th year. Our deceased friend, after spending his young days in London and its neighborhood, came to Brightwater some 25 years ago, and he has ever since resided with his |brother, Mr W. W. Jones. Perhaps his home opposite Kew Gardens, London, gave Mr Jones a horticultural taste— at any rate he was an expert in his garden. As a Rechabite his place will be hard to fill. He has been Treasurer of the Brightwater Tent since its opening, was a Superintendent of Juveniles, and. a honorary caretaker of the Rechabite Hall. Despite the downpour yesterday a large number of his 1.0. R. brethren followed him to the grave, and four of them, selected by himself, Messrs A. H. Andrews, T. Hurford, G, FairhaH, and Bryant acted as pall bearers. The Rev. W. G. Baker read the. burial service, while the Rechabite rites were performed by Bro. Fathers, who had kindly come from town for the purpose.
