CHRIST CHURCH SUNDAY SCHOOLS.

There was a crowded attendance at the Shelbourne-stveet Sunday School last evening at the annual prize giving. The Vicar, the Bey J. P. Kempthorne presided. After the singing of a hymn, and prayer, he addressed the scholars and parents present. He expressed his pleasure at seeing so many present, and then briefly referred to the history of the English Church, pointing out that there were churches and bishops of the English Church long before Augustine landed in England at the head of the Eoman Mission. Eeference was made to the ancient church buildings still standing in Englaud, and he appealed to the scholars present to do their best to grow up worthy members of a Church with such a grand history as the English Church. The Vicar very cordially thanked the teachers for their great help during the past year. The prizes were then distributed as follows : — Christ Church Sonday School. Ist Class Girls : A, Harliog, K. Infant Class : Grace Harling, Stanley Gilbert, Silas Gibson, Connie Kempthovne, | Eric Jackson, James Tregea, Nella Kerr, Wm. Frost. The Wood Sunday School. Ist Class Girls: E. Dayman 1, May Stewart 2, Alice Dayman 3. 2nd Class Girls: Hazel Thorn 1, Edith Dayman 2, Connie Dayman 3, Ella Nesbit 4. 2nd Clas9 Boys: Richard. Dayman 1, Walter Hounsell 2, Norman Stewart, HarryNesbit. Special prize : Gertie Ovenden. Several special prizes were given in the Christ Church Sunday School to scholars who had obtained full marks. Mr Kingsley then exhibited a number of interesting pictures of various places. Some American pictures were exceedingly fine. New Zealand views and South African views also stirred up a good deal of enthusiasm. A most hearty vote of thanks was given to Mr Kingsley for his kindness in giving the exhibition of slides.
