CANTERBURY MARKETS.

Chbistchubch, Monday.

There is a little speculative enquiry for wheat, but there is scarcely any offering. Farmers are now beginning to be busy with harvest, and with the weather so unsettled, they are, moreover, not anxious to sell their old wheat at present prices.

A few samples of new oats are now being offered, principally Canadians, and a line of 1000 bushels has been purchased at Is 3d at a country station, equal to Is 5d f.o.b. The " Akaroa Mail" states that the cutting of cocksfoot on some of the dry points, and on the roads has commenced, but the seed is barely ready, the season being quite a fortnight late. The seed on the lower lands looks remarkably well, but on the high sheltered lands, where the cocksfoot

grows tall, the crop has suffered from the wind and rain. The following are current prices, paid to farmers, f.0.b., Lyttelton, for direct shipment from country stations and free of commission, exoept where otherwise specified :— Wheat (nominal) : Hunter's, Pearl and velvet 2s 3d to 2s 4d, and Tuscan 2s 4dto 2s sd.
