How the News has been Received in the Colonies.
Sidney, January 21.
Lord Hopetoun wired to the Hon. J. Chamberlain : — " The Federal Ministers desire me to assure you that Ifae people of the Commonwealth participate with their fellow subjects of the Kingdom in the National anxiety and distress caused by the lamented illness of the Queen. 1 '
Wellington, January 21.
There has been keen anxiety in in the city during the day as to the progress of the Queen's illness. The cable messages on the suhject were immediately on arrival posted at the newspaper offices, and were eagerly scanned by large crowds of people. The Bishop of Wellington requested that prayers for the Queen be offered at all Anglican churches in the Diocese.
Dunedih, January 21; On receipt of the news of the illness of the Queen profound, regret and anxiety were felt thronghout the city. His Worship the Mayor called a meeting at the Agricultural Hall to-night, to express sympathy on behalf of her Majesty. The Council of the Churches conducted a service. The Mayor, who presided, said that as a patriotic and loyal people it was their duty to meet and show sympathy with her Majesty. The congregation sang several hymns, and prayer was offered up, and passages of Scripture were, read by ministers of the different denominations.
