COUNCIL.

WELLINGTON, July 31. The Council met at 2.30 p.m. The Imprisonment for Debt Limitation, the Public Contracts, and the Native Interpreters Classification Bills were read a first time. On the motion of Mr W. C. Walker, seconded by Sir G. Whitmore, it was agreed to express sympathy with Italy in the assassination of King Humbert, and that the Council adjourn as a mark of respect. • Mr W. C. Walker and Major Baillie also referred to the death of Colonel Kussell, formerly a member of the Council. The Council rose at 2.40 p.m.
