Melbourne, January 20. The Postmaster-General (Hon. W. A. Watt) has received a cablegram from the Secretary of Btate for the Colonies indicating that the Pacific cable scheme is being pushed on with. The Anglo-Colonial Board which was set up a short time ago to arrange for the laying and management of the cable, has appointed a new committee which is taking evidence to ascertain whether any vital alterations have taken place in the conditions that obtained when the providing ot the cable was recommended in 1896- , . . The same committee is considering the further question whether a dupli* cate cable could be laid.
