MOTUEKA TOWN COUNCIL.

FIRST MEETING;

This first meeting of the first. Motueka Borough Council wfis held at 2 p.m: on Wednesday in the Courthouse. The Mayor elect (Mr R. Hursthouse) haying first made the statutory declaration before the Town Clerk, received the declarations of the Councillors; namely. J Messrs W. <T. Moffatt, R. W. H. Rankin, W. Ryder, jnr,, J. Satherley, M. Simpson and F. W. Thorp.

Crs Kankin and Moffatt congratulated the Mayor on his election to the position, and expressed a hope that all would work harmoniously together for the godd of the" Tlte Mayor m reply thanked all for their expressions of good will, and was, he said, well persuaded that tais ; the present Council was a good representative one, that there was an entire absence of ch'4ue.ry among them, and that, all would db tHeir best in their new positions.

Resolved, That Mr H. Everett be appointed Town Clerk to the 31st March next, at a salary of £6 and expenses, and that he be empowered on behalf of the Council to 'make the necessary adjustment of accounts with the Waimea County CJouncil.

; Resolved, That for the present the two daymen be under the orders of Councilors Rankin and Ryder.

Resolved, That the Mayor be requested to approach the Resident Magistrate with a view to using part of the Court House for municipal purposes; Resolved, That the Clerk convene another meeting of the Council as soon as accounts are adjusted with the Waimea County Council.

A letter was received from the Municipal Association inviting the,. Council to join same. Nb action was tafeed in connection therewith.

The Secretary of the Mdtueka Brass Band also wrote, asking the patronage of the Council for their patriotic concert on the 24th, and that the Mayor would occupy the chair. It was resolved to extend the Council's patronage to the event.
