Councillor Kirkpatrick, of Nelson, also spoke a few words, ttrid complimented the residents upon having secured the borough, and hoped the new Council Would not be too cautious; but that they would endeavor to make the place attractive to visitors, as Motueka was, in his opinion, much more healthy than Nelson; The whole of the speeches were impromtu, no previous notice of anything of the khld having been given, and all speeches were, made only in response to the call of the Mayor-elect.
