Precautions in New Zealand.
WRLiiiNaTON. January 17. The Government has decided to proclaim South Australian ports infeoted, and the health officers throughout the Oolony have been instructed to examine all steamers arriving, and to prevent them approaching the wharves until given a olean bill of health by the medical officers, The Premier haa cabled to the Premiers of the Australian Ooloniea informing them of the steps taken in New Zealand to cope with the plague, and asking what they have done, and asking their co-operation in preventive measures. Later. The Zealandia, which arrived from Sydney late this afternoon, was the first vessel subjected to inspection againßt plague. The operation took some time, and it was over two hours before she got up to the wharf. Acokland, January 17. The steamer Tayiuni, from Fiji, afbr a strict medical examination, has been granted pratique. Instructions have been issued by the health officer that all vessels arriving from Australia and the Islands are to anchor below the Railway Wharf till they are visited and inspected next morning.
