NELSON AMATEUR OPERATIC & DRAMATIC SOCIETY.
The members of the above-named Society Save a most diverting and enjoyable performance on May 2nd, whea they produced the farce entitled " The Magistrate." A large and appreciative audience was present. The cast of characters was as follows : — Mr Posket, a Magistrate of the Mulberry street Police Court, Mr A. P. Burnes ; Mr Ballamy, Posket's brother Magistrate, Mr E. F. W. Cooke ; Colonel Lukin, a retired officer from Bengal, Mr F. Kidson : Mrs Posket, late Farringdon nee Verrinder, Mrs R. W. Kingdon ; Miss Charlotte, Mrs Posket's sister, Miss Leggatt ; Miss Beatie Tomlinson, the musio teacher, Miss Gribben ; Popham, the house-maid, Miss N. Scaly ; Captain Horace Vale, of the Shropshire Fusileers, Mr W. W. Squires : Cis Farringdon, Mr F. W. Shallerass ; Achille Blonde, proprietor of the Hotel des Princes, Mr J. Brown; Isidore, the waiter, Mr A. Oldershaw ; Mr Wormington, chief clerk at Mulberry street Police Court, Mr C. Hamilton ; Inspector Messiter, Sergeant Lngg, and Constable Harris, members of the Metropolitan Police were represented by Messrs E. Mackay, D. Watt, and F. Washbourne; and Wyke, Mr Posket's servant man, Mr L. Levien. The piece was exceedingly well played, and created endless amusement. The performers are to be congratulated upon their success, also the management on the manner in which the piece was staged. An orchestra, under the conductorship of Mr Ambrose E. Moore, and consisting of Mrs A. P. Lucas, Misses Graham, Jacobs, Webb-Bowen, Messrs John Graham, Alfred Davies, T. B. Huffam, G. Jacobs, H. Kirkweod, and T. Scott supplied some capital music, which was greatly enjoyed.
