THE SOUDAN EXPEDITION.
I Tib OUUUnn lai buiiiuni Oario. Sttptember 2. A sandstorm is delaying telegrams from the Soudan. The gunboats shelled the enemy's camp at Kerreri. On Tuesday the Lancers skirmished an outpost, where 200 Dervish cavalry were drawn up, killing several of the latter. The skirmishing party sighted a considerable force of the enemy, with many standards. General Kitchener, with the main body of troops, has reached within 10 miles of Kerreri. The Dervishes appear determined to fight. COST SEVEN MILLIONS. London, September 1. The miners on strike in South Wales, by a 2 to 1 majority, have accepted the terms of the proprietors, who agree to an immediate advance of 5 per cent above the wages previously current. This advance will be fixed under agreement for four years unless wages under the eliding scale fall 12i per cent below those of 1879. Strong opposition is still offered to the employers' proposal for the abolition of " Malons " day, the monthly holiday and the question has been left to the decision of the Provisional Committee. It is estimated that the strike has cost the district £7,000,000. September 2. The South Wales coalminers have decided to surrender their claim to " Mabon's day."
