MONEY-LENDING CASES.

In January last a civil action was brought by Mr Jay, a money-lender, to recover £ls, ooo from Sir Tatton Sykes (of Sledmere, Yorkshire), and his wife, Lady Jessica Sykes, on promissory noles .alleged to have been signed by Sir Tdtton.- The jury then found that Sir Tattett did not sign the notes, and gave a verdict in his favor. The documents — which it was alleged by Sir Tatton were forged by his wife, who was one of the witnesses for the plaintiff — were impounded, and it was subsequently announced that Lady Sykes had left England. An action was subsequently brought by th 6 Alliance Assurance Company against Sir Tatton Sykes. 'This has juat been tried/ and the jury found that Sir Tatfcon" Sykes had not signed the papers in question, despite the evidence given by Lady Sykes that he did so. The North British and Mercantile Assurance Company brought a similar case against Sir Tatton Sykes to recover £28,000. In this case, also, judgment was given for the defendant.
