ACCIDENT TO MR. JOHN KERB.

FEARED THAT HE IS DBOWNED. A rumob became circulated in town last night that Mr John Kerr bnd been drowned in Lai;- Eotoiti, but though it may be hoped that the accident has been exaggerated, there is no doubt he has met with a mishap. On making enquiries, we found that MiHenry Batchelor, of the Wood, a son-in-law of Mr John Kerr, had received an urgent telegram from Mr Eobert Kerr, which read as follows :— " Father went boating to-day, and was not home by dark, I went to look for him, and found the boat capsized. Can't find him." It is possible that when the boat capsized Mr Kerr managed to reach an inaccessible part of the shore, but apparently his son, <■ Mr Eobert Kerr, has faint hope that it is so. Mr Kerr came to Nelson quite a boy with his parents, who were esteemed settlers in Waimea West, and for many years he has owned the Lake sheep run.
