m , „ Donedin, March 23. The weather is perfect for the Jubilee celebration. From early morning the streets were full of people, wending their , way to the various functions, and it is estimated that Dunedin never before held^ so many. Considering the great strain on 1 its resources, the railway department has been well equal to the work of the week.! Fully 3000 arrived last night.| The proceedings opened with religions services, the Knox and First Churches forming the cenral points. At the ifermer the Governor attended. FuUy 300 people came from Invercargill, n22 f rom ° utram * 400 from Palmerston, 900 from Clinton, ajid 600 from Oamaru, all by special trains, while the ordinary "ains brought quita another 1000. The procession wus a great success* All the trades were represented, the competitive (displays being ol a high order of excellence. The feature of the procession, which took 40 minutes to pass a given point, were the gatherings of members and old identities. Lord and Lady Ranfurly, the Premier, and the Minister for Lands took part, and were loudly cheered as they proceeded through he streets. The line of ma rch was thronged with a concourse of peo ple, the nu ,Sr er bein S estimated at over 100 000 The sports held after the procession were very largely attended, the number on the ground being from 10,000 to 12 000 The events were of no great importance. " The Jubilee Regatta was held in the upper harbor and was. well attended A nice breeze made yachting events very in teresting The First-Class Yacht Race was won by the Thelma, with Leader second and Carina 3. "White Wings won the Handicap yacht race, and Rugu the 3rd Clans Yacht race, wiih dream second. TAe illuminations to-night were on a mach more modest scale than at the Diamond Jubilee. Many business men rjontented themselves with taking down shatters and lighting gas in their windows. Fairy lamps were the favorite means of illumination, and some very effective designs were to be seen. The Jubilee Committee made a display of fireworks from the railway over bridge, which proved successor -, T 5 c a rran _*3ments were in charge of Mr W. Stokes of Christchurch. The Industrial Exhibition was crowded all day to-day and again this evening.
