MOTUEKA WESLEYAN SUNDAY SCHOOL ANNIVERSARY.

The anniversary of the Wesleyan Sunday School was celebrated on Good Friday, by a Tea party to tbe children as w 11 as by an adults Tea, which, it is neealess to say was well patronised, the exceellent Teas provided by the energetic ladies' of the Wesleyan Body are sufficient to guarantee their proving a success. After tea, the public were well and suitably entertained at the Foresters Hall, principally by the scholars of the Sunday School, in which they were assisted by other friends, including the very excellent String Band which performed several sweet selections under the able baton of Mr Andrew Miller. The Rev Mr Harker took

the chair, and opened the proceedings with a suitable address, but owing to the illness of Mrs Harker was unable to remain, he therefore introduced Mr J. B. Jordan to take the position and preside during the remainder of the programme, which was not only a lengthy but also a very pleasant one, and consisted of chairmans addresses, selections by the String Band, addresses by friends, including the Rev. Mr Johnston of Riwaka, reading by Mr P. Quayle, recitations by the scholars, the execution of which reflects great credit both upon the young reciters and their teachers, and last but not least, the singing of several hymns nicely rendered by the children, for which their instructors Miss McGlashen and Mr W. C. Webb are to be complimented. The attendance at the meeting was good, and during the rendering of the different items the audience exhibited their appreciation of the efforts put forth for their entertainment, and which proved altogether very successful. Before the meeting separated votes of thanks were given by the audience to those who had kindly taken part, and especially to the children and teachers, the chairman also thanked the audience for their attendance, and showing their appreciatien in the good work undertaken by the teachers for the welfare of the young who attend the Sunday Sohool. A vote of thanks to the chairman terminated the proceedings at 9*30 p.m. The s.s. Lily ran an excursion from Nelson bringing as many passengers as she was allowed, and I understand that some 50 others were left on the Nelson wharf unable to secure a passage. Several others also found their way overland by means of I their bicycles, so that altogether Motueka presented a somewhat lively appearance throughout the day.
