NELSON RIFLE ASSOCIATION.

A gexebal meeting of this Association was held at the Committee Room at the Drill Shed on Saturday evening, when Captain Harkness presided. There was a representative attendance from the various corps. The minutes of the preliminary meeting were read and approved. Rules andby-laws for the governing of the Association, as recommended by the Committee, were adopted with some slight alterations. The election of officers resulted aa follows : — President, V.D. Lieutenant-Colonel Pitt ; Vice Presidents, Major Franklyn, SurgeonMajor Pearless, Captain Littlejohn, Q. Y. Fell, Esq., and H. Hunter-Brown, Esq.; Hon. Secretary, Sergeant-Major D. W. Healy; Hon. Treasurer, Lieutenant E. Fleming. Council: Stoke Rifles, Captain i Harkness and Sergeant Allport; Waimea] Rifles, Captain Bryant and Sergeant Baigent; H Battery, Lieutenant Fleming and Sergt Milner ; Coast Guards, Lieut. Watson and Sergeant Bankin. The membership of the Association was then discussed, and members present gave the following as the minimum number likely to join the Association from their respective corps :— -Stoke Bifles, 15; Waimea, 10; H Battery, 10; Coast Guards, 5 ; total, 40. The numbers were considered very satisfactory. It was resolved (hat civilians should be allowed to

ecome members and fire in matches, proided they fire in a prescribed head dress ; lo cap or hat to have a broader brim than hree inches. It was resolved that the rules if the N.Z.R* Association as to firing.be adopted: The 'meeting suggested to the joiincil that 2/6 be the fees for challenge hots, and that sighting shots (optional) be charged at the rate of 3d each. A suggestion vas also made tbat in the last try championhip match the first 10 should fire off alO ihot match at 700 yards. The question of ising private rifles was left to the Council o decide. The meeting then adjourned, md the Council will meet for business next Saturday evening.
