A CHARMED LIFE.
THREE TIMES HIT BY BULLETS. At the recent storming of the Dargai Pass (India) Private S» Hasaard, F Company, Ist Gordon Highlanders, was hit three times by Alridi bullets, and his escape unwounded is looked upon a3 miraculoub. The order was given for his regiment to take the pass at the point of the bayonet. Hassard was the fifth man up the pass. One of the enemy's bullets struck his haversack, knocking off the buckle. The second bullet struck his ammunition pouch, knocking him down, shattering the ammunition. The third bullet struck the bag of his haversack, went right through his kilt, and struck a comrade next to him in the leg. In its passage, the latter bullet struck a new Kropp razor, making a hole through the razor case, and breaking the b.ne handle of the razor. Hassard, who was not damaged in the flesh, has kept the damaged articles as curiosities. He writes he has had enough of active service in such a wild country. The forces had not tasted bread for four weeks, hard biscuits being their fare. It has been the roughest time of his life, and he longs for the time when he will be a free man.
