NGATIMOTI.
(From a Correspondent.) i A very successful concert in every respect was given the other evening in aid of the local Library. The Schoolroom was crowded on | the occasion. Vocal and instrumental music were supplied by Misses Haycock, Beatson, Guy, Whelan, L. Gardner, N. Delaney, Brereton, Messrs C. Beatson, Peppin, anci Guy Beatson. An amusing sketch entitled " The Game of Cashmere," brought the excellent programme to a close. On the motion of Mr Roger Lloyd (the Chairman) a hearty vote of thanks was accorded Mesdames C. Beatson and Hill for the pains they had taken in coaching the local talent, and bringing it to the front. The company afterwards enjoyed themselves in dancing. The Spring has now fairly set in, and the farmers are all busy getting in the crops, and preparing their hop gardens. The winter on the whole has been favorable, and the cattle and sheep are looking well. The lambs are strong and healthy, and the percentage of lambs is good, in fact, in one case a farmer reports having one hundred and thirty per cent of lambs with his flock. Under the supervision of Mr C. Beatson, architect, Mr F. Cresswell has completed satisfactorily the much needed enlargement to the Orinoco Valley School. The scholars have nowplenty of accommodation, and should show up well in the next examinations. Sept. lst, 1897.
