PRESENTATION AT TAITAPU.

' Colonist ' May Gtb.) On the eve tf his departure from the j Taitapu, Mr James Coutts met with what mußt have been a gratifying experience. For come time past tbe gentleman named bas occupied tbe responsible position of mine manager to tbe Taitapu Gold Estates, Limited, aud' during the term of his management he bas not alone verified the high reputation whioh he eojoyed in the estimation ol those who knew him personally, but has won the esteem of all those wilh whom his duties have brought him in oontact, by his straightforwardness and by his general courtesy. Some little time back Mr Coutts reoeived the offer <f an appointment from the Government a« Inspector of Mines for tbe Acobland district, and having elected to accept the position h is now 'on his way to the North. Before leaving the Estates there was a gathering at ths Golden Ridge of all those connected with the Company, and a handsome illuminated address, tbe work of Mr Maginnity, junior, was presented to Mr Co"t s nn babr'f of the employees, who, in the address, expressed their h'gh estimation ot Mr Caatis as a mine manager, acknowledged his kindtess and consideration, and wished him every success i and happiness in his new Bpbere of dutieß. the presentat on was made by Mr R. Hursthouse, who temporarily fills the position of manager, who made an able and feeling speech. Mr Hurse, the Secretary, also testified to the consideration and kindness at all times displayed by Mr Coutts, and also to the good work he had done at Taitapu.

In addition to the presentation of the address, it was intimated that a silver coffee service, suitably inscribed, would be forwarded on to Mr Coutts, time not having admitted of the servioe being received.

Mr Coutts suitably acknowledged the kindly expressions of esteem, and heartily thanked them for their handsome presentation.

On Mr Coutts reaching Collingwood he was entertained at Riley's Hotel by Collingwood and Taitapu friends, and was given a right good send-off.
