The Board reßomed yesterday prts?nt, Meßsrs Talbot (Chairman), Hursthouse, Frankiyn, Phil ips, Best, Maginnity. t inohir, and hi ok.

The Becetarj'd report was read and oo firmed

Mr Phillip s adjournel motion to establish entranoe examination for probationers came on for discussion.

Mr Phillips shortly reiterated his arguments in favor of the introduction of the system.

The Chief Inspector said that he and Mr Lad ley had been unable to report upon the matter bb instructed for the reason that thare bad been a three weeks interval fiom task m etiug, and it was the busiest time of the year for the Inspectors, on account of examination reports and annual repoitg. As the subjeot was an exhaustive one the Inspectors wou d like a month or two months extension of time to allow them to prepare a wall considered report. Mr Frankiyn wished the oiroular sent by the Board to the various Sohool Committees read.

Thig was done.

Mr Frankiyn said that if tbe motion wia carried it would mean that the. power would be taken from the Committees to appoint as they wifhed— that their power of selection would be oartailed.

The Chairman eaid that this was not so, tor, ai was pointed oat at tbe time of the firßt moving, Committees would not be ob'iged to select the oandidate with the most marks, the ugh it would be a good guide in making a seleotion.

It wes resolved to postpone further con lidtr&ton cf the matter for two mon'hs.

The following appointments were* male : Miss Luoy White, Central Buller ; Miss Ada Ho'yoake, probationer, Appleb7 sobool ; Mias Franks Stoddart 8.A,, Toi Toi Valley Sobool, head mistrese.

The resignation of Mis 3 Kelly, Land of Promise school, was acoepted, a successor to be advertised for.

The Hon Treasurer (Mr Maginnity) presented his financial report as follows : —General aooount : Cr by balance in Bank £1314 Is Id less unpresented cheques £144, balance £1170 Is Id.

Building aocouat; Cr., amount on fixed deposit £500, grant advised bat not received. £2050, total £2550. Less overdraft current account £22 19s 7d, unpreßented cheques £8 Oi 6d, expenditure already authorised £480 15. Balance available £2040 4s lid.

A application from Mr Scott, Upper Takaka, was oonsidered and deferred for further particulars.

Mr Sinolair supported the application made some time eidce for tbe e3tab ishment of a Bohool at Gibbstown, Lyel'.

It was resolved to take the necoßeary steps to establish an sided sohool in this locality.

A letter wjb reoeived from Glenroy, complaining of various matters, and it was resolved to inform the writer that any complain*, must be forwarded through tha local Committee.

The Westport Ccmmittea wished a deoision of the Foard upon the appointment of a supervisor cf tha Teohnioal Eohools examination.

The Board declined to give an opinicn upon the interpretation of an Aot of Parliament.

The Bee ton Committee wrote asking a reconsideration of the deoision to appoint two probationers. The Committee aßked that Mr Wilson Bhonld be appointed an assistant teacher witb one probationer, Mr Wilson to leceive the money that would be paid to thegteoond probationer.

It was resolved that the Board adhere to its resolution, and the Reefton Committee be asked to seleot two probationers.

Ihe Town Committee applied for an extra probationer to be appointed to the Central Sobcol.

Conßidera'ion postponed till after the ieBseembiing of the schools, in order to fteoertain whether the numbers then attending warrant the appointment. The action of the Town Committee in temporarily filling Miss Sadd's position at Toi Toi Valley Bohool was approved, Mr Frankiyn moved tbat tbe Board is willing to establish a district high school at Weßtport.

After a long discussion the Chairman, Messrs Maginnity, Frankiyn end Sinclair were appointed a Committ c to draw up a report upon the matter.
