TOWN V. COUNTRY. A WIN FOR THE TOWN. The above match which had been looked to for some time by the rivals of both sides, took place at the Park on Saturday, when a pleasant day was given for the match, which was only spoilt by a strong northerly wind. A good deal of troublo had been taken to prepare the wicket, but the rain had softened it considerably, and consequently, at the start of the game, it was heavy and treaoherous. J. Broad was replaced by A. Dencker in the Town, and Shuttleworth, W. Newth, and J. Price, by L. Knapp, F. Dunn, and H. Enapp, in the Country team. S Fowler was chosen as captain of the visiting team, and R W Stiles the of Town. The latter won the toss, and sen the country men to bat. L Graham and C Broad commenced tHe bowling, against which, with one exception, W H Pearless, the country men made a poor display. The first three wickets fell for 13 runs, and four batsmen quickly followed, adding only six runs, and the innings terminated for the small total of 29. Pearless played a nics steady innings for 13, and was the only one to make a creditable show. At the luncheon adjournment the Town team had one wicket down for 26 runs. On resuming, C Broad and D Graham brought the score to 33, when the latter's wicket fell, and Silcock followed without adding to the score. Five wickets including Broad's, had fallen for 41, and a large score was not anticipated, when F Blincoe, who has lately distinguished himself, commenced to lay the wood on, and the so re wi h his and Talbot's exertions, together with a numbe? extras rose to 142, when the innings closed f jr 142, F. Blinooe having played a good innings for 50, not oat. He gave a chance early in the game. Broad (23), D. Graham (10) and Talbot (18), played well for their to als. With 113 rune behind the country team started their second venture, and taking advantage of the improved wiokat batted with much greater freedom, and were not disposed of nctil 115 runs had been compiled, six changes ia the bowling having also been made. O Prioe, with one life, soon rattled up 21, whilst O Baigent (14) and E Eerr (23) played vigorously for their numbers, S Fowler contributed 31 not oat ; having given a a" anoe early in his innings. The country skipper played with great oare all through, and he received an ovation at the close of the innings. The fielding of the town men daring the innings was unquestionably loose. Tha visitors prevented a oneinnings defeat by 3 runs, and th-se runs were knocked np vitbout the lobb of a wickat, tne home team securing an easy v.otory by 10 wickets. L Giabam and B Eerr bowled splendidly for their respective teama. The dampness cf the wioket daring the early part cf the day was unfortunate for the visi ing t am, as is prevented them making a larger soore in their first innings, and bringing the game to a closer issue. There was a fair attendance of the public, and an exceptionally fine spirit pervaded the players throughout. Messrs H, -Denaker (Town) and H. Knapp (Country) aoted «s umpiree, and Dr Pear less and Mr P. Toplisa as soorerg. At the conclusion of the game, cheers for bath teamp, and the officials were heartily giver.
