MOONLIGHT CONCRET.

OPENING OP BAND BOTUNDA.

The attendance at the Botanioal Gardens Rsßcrve last evening, when the Nelson Garrison Band gave a moonlight concert in oelebration of the opening of the new Band rotunda, was not nearly so large as we had anticipated, bat those present enjoyed an exceedingly pleasant performance. There was no speeofa miking though in honor of the occasion Htrr Handke bad composed a triumphal march which was played by the Band and was applauded, as indeed it deserved to be, f -<r the composition is a very effective one. The rotunda, which has been created in the soutb-eastern portion of the ground, was soon proved to be all that ooald be desired; it is sufficiently roomy to aooommodate in comfort the whole cf the bandsmen whose music was heard to advantage by the aadienoe. Mr H. K. Hall deserves the thanks of the community for having undertaken the task of collecting the necessary money for its erection, and Mr Hall and thoße who so liberality subscribed towards the rotunds wil bavo the satisfaction of knowing that they have been the means cf providing a want that had often been felt. We may add that Herr HaDdke and the members of the Band expressed themselves highly pleased with the rotunda. The programme presented included the quick march, " Off we go," the overture " Crown of honor " (0. Biohards), the test selection " Helevy " (H Bound), grand march " Triumphal " (Berr Handke), test selection "Lucia di Lammermoor" (Donnizelti), the contest waltz " Dreams on the Ocean" (J Gung'l), grand selection •• Bigoletta " (Verdi) and the quick maroh " Love and Courage." The members of the Band were a little disappointed that his Worship the Mayor was not present to open tbe rotunda, but his Worship was otherwia c engaged. Mr Snodgraes kiodly presented the Band with collection trays, and tbe amount reoeived at the gates last night was £5 4s 4d.
