Attempt to Break a Record.

Napier, December 15.

On the Recreation Ground to-night, E. Beynolds of Auckland endeavored to break Thompson's Christchurch record for half a mile, viz, Imm 5§ sees. A light rain had fallen, making the track sticky. Eeynolds accomplished the distance in 1 mm 6 sees u.ipaced, being 2-sth of a second outside the record, but riding it in standard time.
