NEW HEBRIDES.
DESTINED FRENCH POSSESSION.
Sydney, December 15.
Mr Rigginson, of the French New Hebrides Campanv, who has jus< returned from a visit to France, saya tbe destiny of the islands ig that they should become a French possession and to effect this ib the immediate purpose of the French Company which already owns two thirds of the laad ia the group. He characterises the preseir- dual oontrol as a wretched failura. They had civilisation all round the group, yet the islands were without any civilised authority. The condition was practically anarohy, and if right is might it was inevitable that the group should beoome a French possession. Great Britain and France, he considered, oould easily seit'e tbe matter between themselves, but the former had to consider A ustralian susoeptibilitias and sentiment.
