Wellington, Deoember 12. The barque Alice was insured for only about $10,000. The cargo on board and ready for shipment is insured for aboot £6000 tbe South British and tbe China Trader's Offices having prinoipal lines. About 50 biles of flax have been actually destroyed, but a large quantity ba9 been satarstrf with water. It will be dried. A quantity of tbe deck planking, and beami oi the vessel were to badley chirred that they will have to be replaced, and as other repairs will have to be effeoted it will be sime time before the barque is ready for sea. Thbte is a difference of opinion among officers of the vessel and agents as to the oauae of the outbreak. Tbe officers are confident tbat it was the reoult of spontaneous combußtion, but the agents are equally confident that it was caused by aep irk from the galley fire. Experts declare .that the flax being shipped on the Alioe was of tbe best quality ever exported from the oolony.
