In oodb quence ot the Royal Life Boat Institution .being unable to .superintend the oonstrqotion of a steam lifeboat for Adelaide, of which Mr, .Barr Smith, a well known resident, h%B ooneented to defray the cost (estimated at £3500). the Government h&B deoided to send Mr Clark^on, engineer of the gunboat Protection, , to England to supervise the building.
