The Mayor also reoeived telegrams from Mr Blow and Mr Tregear, as follows:— " Wellington, August 12th. In reply re Belgrove railway, Mr Wilson, Beßident Engineer, is going to Nelson by b.b. Wainui this evening to Eee to matterß. He will Bee you to-morrow forenoon.— H. J. H. Blow." " Wellington, August 12th. Hon. Mr Beeves desires me to acknowledge yonr telegram, and to Bay tbat the Engineer from Wellington will see you to-morrow morning, and he will expedite matters delayed by Mr O'Connor's illness. — Edwabd Tbeoeab, Seeretary of Labor Bureau. Fires.— The Oddfellows' Hall at Ashburton has been destroyed by fire. It oost £2,000, and was ineared for £800— £400 each in the Commercial and South British offices. The Ocoidental Hotel at Wanganui has been gutted by fire. There were no insurance on the baiiding or furniture. Fivb tons of Marram grass roots have bsen imported to plant at Ooean Beaob, Dnnedin.
